Under their strategic Community Asset and Land Use program, KCI partnered with the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County (Metro) to implement Trimble Cityworks at the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT).

To update Metro’s legacy Cityworks system, which was limited by extensive customizations, KCI collaboratively planned a multi-year phased initiative using software implementation best practices and off-the-shelf configuration. This approach would serve to modernize their maintenance practices and customer service workflows, creating an enterprise platform for work and asset management.

KCI’s Cityworks implementation for Metro followed a three-step process: a discovery phase to define requirements, an implementation phase to configure workflows and test with users, and a deployment phase to provide training and support for go-live. In addition to this comprehensive phased approach to the project, our team incorporated change management strategies to support user adoption and organizational readiness. This included targeted communication, leadership engagement, and hands-on coordination to align technology with day-to-day work practices and to promote successful system adoption.

The implementation allowed for enhanced reporting and visibility into performance, staffing, and costs, supporting leadership decision-making and accountability. Today, Trimble Cityworks serves as NDOT’s foundation for managing maintenance activities and citizen service requests while providing a scalable modern platform to support Metro’s ongoing operational needs.
