The Great Elephant Migration touring art installation was comprised of over 100 life-sized elephant sculptures that traveled together across the United States to raise awareness for wildlife conservation.
Handcrafted by indigenous Indian artisans in South Asia, the large-scale sculptures were made from the invasive plant species lantana camara placed over steel skeletons, which was removed from protected areas and used to combine art with environmental conservation. The exhibit was first displayed in Rhode Island and visited other locations nationwide over the course of a year before ultimately ending their expedition in California.
KCI provided engineering and technical support for the temporary installation of the sculptures at each display location. Due to the finite nature of the exhibit, installation conditions varied drastically, with project sites including urban plazas, park landscapes, grass fields, and coastal environments. The team provided stability analysis for the sculptures and supported the client in generating feasible base anchorage options at all locations nationwide.
