In partnership with the Town of Cary, KCI provided multi-phase subsurface utility engineering (SUE) services to support compliance with the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR).

To address gaps and inaccuracies in the Town’s existing records, KCI’s SUE team conducted Level B investigations, identifying underground water service lines and locating residential water meters using ground-penetrating radar and electromagnetic equipment. Building on these findings, the team performed Level A SUE work, employing vacuum excavation at over 300 Town-selected addresses to expose service lines and verify pipe material and condition. All testing activities were documented with photographs, which were uploaded to secure mobile mapping software for accurate, real-time data tracking. At the Town’s request, KCI also installed 3M marker balls at each address to assist the Water Locating Department with future 811 locate requests.

The project culminated in a comprehensive report detailing pipe sizes, depths, materials, and conditions at each location, providing the Town with accurate, defensible information to support regulatory compliance and long-term asset management.
