The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Pennsylvania-Delaware Chapter recently recognized the South Wetlands Park restoration project with a Merit Award in the Analysis and Planning category.
Additionally, the initiative also received the Chapter’s new Green Ribbon Recognition, which highlights projects that go above and beyond the standard for sustainable design. Both awards were formally presented at the 2026 ASLA PA-DE Conference on Landscape Architecture, held in Dewey Beach, Delaware.
KCI worked with the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation to transform South Wetlands Park into a resilient, ecology-driven public space. Seeking to serve as a model for urban restoration, the project combined public access with restored terrestrial and aquatic habitats to strengthen shoreline resiliency and environmental vitality. The initiative’s design incorporated adaptive reuse strategies, nature-based shoreline stabilization, and innovative wave-energy dissipation while evaluating long-term sea-level rise and storm impacts to support a more sustainable waterfront.
