KCI provided civil design and permitting assistance for the installation of a large solar farm at Mount Saint Mary’s College in Emmitsburg.
The sizeable initiative was slated for establishment on over 100 acres of land owned by the University, with several smaller facilities additionally constructed separate from the primary display, to provide 16.1 megawatts of sustainable electricity throughout the entire campus.
KCI worked closely with the project owner to obtain a necessary Frederick County Board of Appeals Approval of Special Exception for construction within an agricultural zone. Additionally, the team collaborated with the County to develop a stormwater management concept methodology allowing the project’s progression while ensuring minimal grading and an impervious footprint. KCI also mapped on-site forest conservation areas and wetlands to determine the maximum solar layout area available.
