The Cleveland Park Streetscape and Drainage Improvement project was recently recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) with a National Recognition Award in the Special Projects category.
The award recognizes outstanding engineering projects that exemplify quality, innovation, value, and client satisfaction. Having previously earned an Engineering Excellence Award from ACEC of Metropolitan Washington, the project was honored at the annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala. Jeff Tan was present at the event and received the recognition on behalf of the entire project team.
To address recurring flooding near the Cleveland Park Metro Station and enhance pedestrian safety, KCI worked with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) to implement improvements to the Connecticut Avenue corridor from Macomb Street to Quebec Street. Enhancements included upgrading the drainage system to manage stormwater effectively, improving access and visibility at intersections, reconstructing curb ramps to meet ADA standards, and revamping crosswalk striping. Additionally, streetscape and green infrastructure were enhanced by installing street furnishings, creating gathering areas, and LID/bio-retention and permeable paving.
