The City of Houston’s Northeast Transmission Line program was recently awarded Project of the Year in the Environmental Projects over $75M category.
The honor, shared by KCI, was presented by the American Public Works Association (APWA), during the organization’s 2024 awards ceremony for the Texas Chapter. Denis Atwood was present to accept the award on behalf of the firm.
To enable transmission of a new surface water supply into Houston’s drinking water system, the $450 million Northeast Transmission Line was constructed using 16.5 miles of pipeline. Throughout the six-year construction phase, KCI provided construction program management for the waterline, tracking the completion of program budget and schedule goals and providing documentation to ensure consistent quality across all projects. Due to the massive size of the 108-inch diameter transmission, construction was split into 13 separate projects to allow for multiple contractors to perform work simultaneously across the region. Our team regularly visited the project sites to complete aerial inspections and drone flight video recordings to assess progress and keep the City and stakeholders informed of its status. Now complete, this project is leading the way to sustainable water sourcing in Texas for years to come.
