The Cosm Grandscape in Texas is a groundbreaking entertainment venue featuring a 51-foot-tall LED dome that surrounds audiences with an immersive visual experience.
Built inside an existing structure, the dome includes a “visor” element that extends 33 feet overhead. KCI’s Northeast region was brought on to ensure the unique design could be built safely and securely. The team conducted a full structural review, evaluating how it would perform under the weight of LED panels, sound systems, climate equipment, limited live load and even internal lateral pressures or seismic activity. One of the biggest design challenges was the visor structure, which had to hang from the existing roof structure without compromising stability. The team worked closely with the client to find the right support locations and load paths. At the dome’s base, the team designed custom anchorage points to firmly connect the structure to the foundation.
The design was accomplished using advanced 3D modeling software, which helped confirm the structures global stability and integrity and also verify the adequacy of every structural connection. This high-profile project demonstrates our team’s ability to engineer creative solutions for unique and visually striking structures.
