Beneath the Light Rail line in Baltimore, a broken sewage pipe was leaking into the Howard Street rail freight train tunnel below.
During repairs to the sewer pipe, KCI was contracted to monitor potential impacts from construction for both the tunnel and the Light Rail tracks and platform, with each having different requirements for frequency of monitoring. Our surveyors implemented laser scanning with six globe targets to generate accurate data, mapped the street-side access tunnel, and used LiDAR to create a 3D model revealing potential conflicts with proposed solutions. With excavation carefully monitored, the repairs were completed without disruptions.
