In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in 2024, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) contracted KCI to assess and repair three major Tampa Bay bridges.
After reopening them within 24 hours, our team was tasked with overseeing cleanup efforts on the barrier islands along Gulf Boulevard, coordinating FDOT contractors and supervising 24/7 operations with nearly 400 dump trucks removing up to 15 feet of sand. Within four days, the roadway reopened, while a team of up to 250 workers continued clearing debris to fully restore the area. Using drones for damage assessment and debris measurement, KCI efficiently directed resources to speed recovery.
As these efforts were underway, a second storm formed and threatened Florida’s west coast. When Hurricane Milton approached, KCI prioritized infrastructure repairs to withstand the new threat. Once Milton passed, the team resumed cleanup and conducted permanent repairs including bridge abutments, embankments, and guardrails. KCI’s rapid response minimized community disruption, ensured first responder access, and earned FDOT’s strong endorsement, positioning KCI as a trusted partner for statewide hurricane recovery efforts.
