The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) recognized the I-295 Fayetteville Outer Loop project with a National Design-Build Merit Award in the Transportation category.
Considered one of the highest honors in the design-build industry, the Design-Build Project/Team Awards Program recognizes projects and teams that challenge conventional approaches, elevate industry standards and demonstrate outstanding results in performance, quality, innovation, owner satisfaction and overall project value.
The Fayetteville Outer Loop project included the construction of a new 6-mile segment of Interstate 295 (I-295) and the widening of a 3-mile section of Interstate 95 (I-95) from four lanes to eight. KCI provided inspection and construction administration services, coordinated efforts among project partners, and oversaw construction activities, including the installation of a temporary conveyor bridge that transported nearly 4 million tons of earth across the roadway. This innovative approach reduced the need for dump truck trips on public roads and minimized impacts on local traffic. Leveraging its industry expertise, KCI also recommended that the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) incorporate the planned I-95 widening into the development of the new I-295 corridor, helping accelerate construction and reduce overall project costs.
