KCI supported the Fayetteville Outer Loop Project, a large-scale transportation improvement initiative constructing a new section of I-295 and widening a preexisting portion of I-95.
The design-build project delivered a new six-mile segment of roadway along I-295 and widening I-95 from four lanes to eight between miles markers 38 and 41. To accomplish these objectives, KCI oversaw the installation of a temporary conveyor belt bridge to transport nearly four million tons of dirt from one side of the roadway to the other, eliminating the need for unnecessary dump truck trips on public roads and significantly reducing traffic impacts and congestion.
For the comprehensive initiative, KCI provided inspection and construction administration services, as well as guiding close coordination between project partners and overseeing construction. Leveraging the team’s industry expertise, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) was advised to incorporate I-95’s proposed widening into the establishment of I-295’s new corridor, expediting construction and reducing budget expenditures. Now complete, the project serves as a model for delivering complex infrastructure improvements efficiently through strategic planning and innovation.
