The American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Franklin Section recently recognized the SR 20-B15 Bridge Replacement with the 2026 Project of the Year Award.
The honor, which recognizes a transportation project completed in Northwestern Pennsylvania, was formally presented during ASHE Franklin’s annual awards dinner. Russell Howells and Zachary Kaczmarek were present at the event to receive the honor on behalf of the project team.
Serving as the primary consultant, KCI worked in coordination with a teaming partner to deliver an accelerated bridge replacement after initial rehabilitation evaluations determined the existing structure was unsafe for traffic. Our team oversaw the traffic control plan, right-of-way plan, erosion and sediment control plan, utility coordination, and subsurface utility engineering (SUE). Originally scoped as a rehabilitation initiative, categorization shifted when the team discovered the bridge could no longer safely carry high volumes of moving vehicles, prompting the bridge’s closure in February 2024. With only weeks available to develop a full replacement design, the team advanced the project rapidly, completing a comprehensive Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) package by May 2024 and delivering the initiative for bid in July 2024.
