Chad Sary has been recognized with the 2025 Planning Distinguished Alumni Award by East Carolina University’s (ECU) Community and Regional Planning Program.
This honor is presented to a graduate of the program who has made significant contributions to the planning profession and demonstrates continued support for the University’s program.
A 1996 ECU graduate, Sary’s connection to ECU is evident through his service on the Planning Alumni Advisory Board, where he collaborates with faculty, fellow alumni and students to advance the program’s mission and mentor the next generation of planners and government administrators.
Sary currently serves as a business developer in KCI’s Raleigh, North Carolina office, bringing more than two decades of experience in land use planning, strategic development, and project management. He is a certified planner (AICP), floodplain manager, and zoning official, and has completed additional training in real estate appraisal, facilities planning, and economic development. Sary also served on the Town of Wake Forest Planning Board for two years before being elected to the Town Council, where he held office from 2019 to 2023.
Since joining KCI in 2023, his leadership has been instrumental in shaping sustainable growth strategies and expanding KCI’s brand awareness in North Carolina. Beyond his professional achievements, he actively participates in regional initiatives focused on enhancing community well-being, economic development and assisting local governments with strategic planning efforts.
