MdQI Honors Multiple KCI Projects with Awards

June 16, 2025 | Awards

The Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI) recently recognized two KCI projects during their annual awards ceremony.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge Recovery project was honored with three different awards, including Modal Over $5 Million, Partnering over $10 Million Gold, and 2025 Project of the Year Over $5 Million. KCI also received an award in the Modal Awards – Projects Under $5 Million category for our contributions to the Metro Rogers Avenue Passerelle Replacement project.

These awards celebrate achievements within the Maryland transportation industry, recognizing projects that incorporate innovative solutions and best practices, and contribute to the quality, safety, and efficiency of the state’s transportation infrastructure. Adam Gardner, CCM, DBIA, Jim Grove, and Lee Anne Janney, CCM, were present at the ceremony to accept the awards on behalf of the firm.

FRANCIS SCOTT KEY BRIDGE RECOVERY

After the devastating collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March 2024, rebuilding the critical overpass was paramount. The emergency initiative required the rapid accomplishment of a comprehensive list of tasks, and KCI was contracted to oversee a substantial portion of the preliminary documentation. The team made record of steel recovered from the Patapsco River, output manpower, tonnage of materials, and supplies shipped off site. Additionally, we assumed responsibility for coordinating between the Navy, Coast Guard, MDTA, and other affiliated contractors to ensure successful progression of the project.

METRO ROGERS AVENUE PASSERELLE REPLACEMENT

This project entailed the reconstruction of a deteriorated covered pedestrian bridge designed to provide unobstructed wheelchair access from the parking area to the mezzanine level of the Rogers Avenue Metro Station in Baltimore. KCI was contracted to provide constructability review services and prepare a comprehensive time analysis and preliminary schedule for the initiative.
