Welch Establishes Vertical Transportation Practice at KCI

April 4, 2024 | Announcements

KCI welcomes Patrick Welch to the firm as senior project manager for our new vertical transportation service offering that will focus support on bus, rail, and airport facilities.

In this role, he will leverage more than 35 years of planning, design, construction management, and inspection experience to create, lead and grow the firm’s new national vertical transportation practice.

Throughout his extensive career, Welch has demonstrated his expertise throughout numerous significant achievements. With experience spanning multiple sectors as well as state, national, and international transportation agencies, Welch possesses a comprehensive understanding of vertical transportation regulations as they pertain to airports, hospitals, and retail establishments, among others. After recognizing an industry need, Welch was also awarded a patent for his development of a vertical transportation maintenance management system, which responds to demands to improve elevator and escalator reliability by automating dispatch responses to computerized maintenance management systems.

“As KCI is positioned to offer increased support to clients through our newly established vertical transportation practice, I am confident that Patrick’s leadership will prove essential to this expansion of our transportation facility services. His thorough understanding of elevator, escalator, and moving walkway equipment and his contributions to industry standards make him a valuable asset to our team.”

Jeffrey Knueppel, PE, Transit Regional Practice Leader

As an involved participant in industry committees and associations, Welch brings a wealth of insight to KCI along with over 20 years of experience developing International Codes and Standards as a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) A17.1 Escalator & Moving Walk Safety Code Escalator and Moving Walk committee and ASME Instructor for the Escalator Inspector course. Additionally, he served over 20 years chairing the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) Elevator Escalator Technical Forum collaborating with industry and transit authorities to address the unique needs of public transportation. He also chaired every working group to produce five individual “Recommended Practices” for the installation of heavy-duty vertical transportation equipment.
