Responding to highway traffic noise complaints in Port St. Lucie, Florida, KCI conducted a traffic-noise monitoring study involving 36 single-family residences.
The study, which utilized noise regulation standards developed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) as the criteria for evaluation, employed portable noise monitoring meters in eight locations to record noise events in continuous one-hour periods. Over the course of the study, more than 2,500 potential noise disturbance events were cumulatively captured, which helped verify the noise issues that the residents were experiencing.
With data from two separate studies, KCI prepared a presentation for the Mayor and City Council sharing recommendations for improvement. Pleased with the final product, former Mayor Gregory J. Oravec identified KCI’s presentation as a model for future exceptional information teaching presentations.
