Morris Sheppard Spillway Pump

Fort Worth, TX

Client:
Brazos River Authority
Markets:

KCI performed a condition assessment and developed recommendations to bring the spillway pump and piping system to fully functional operations at the Morris Sheppard Dam, which controls the outflow of water into the Brazos River.

Our team’s recommendations for the dam included replacing the existing pump originally installed in 1941 as well as 380-linear-feet of 12-in coat and lined steel pipe due to signs of excessive corrosion. As part of the assessment, our survey team performed conventional and terrestrial LiDAR scanning and 3D modeling of the mechanical room. Once complete, KCI provided civil, electrical and structural engineering for all recommendations outlined in the assessment.

Final design included a new pump, which had a nominal flow of 5,100 gallons per minute, the installation of approximately 430-linear-feet of 12-inch PVC pipe within the Spillway section of the Dam, and replacement of all corroded bracing systems from previous installations. KCI will provide onsite inspection for all aspects of construction.
