KCI provided wetland mitigation services for the Rough Horn Swamp (RHS) and Rough Horn II (RHSII) restoration sites, two adjacent projects encompassing approximately 100 acres of stream and wetland rehabilitation in Columbus County, North Carolina.

Initiated through the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s (NCDEQ) Mitigation Services (DMS) Full Delivery program, the projects restored natural ecological function within nearby waterways. Our project team developed comprehensive mitigation plans, prepared a Categorical Exclusion report, conservation easement plat and documentation, and secured environmental permitting. Restoration activities included filling agricultural drainage ditches to reestablish wetland hydrology, enhancing and preserving existing wetlands, and planting native tree species throughout the sites. Upon completion, the projects will generate 14 riparian and 11 non-riparian wetland mitigation credits, with KCI providing long-term monitoring through a seven-year monitoring period.
