With increasing development creating a need for mitigation credits, KCI provided full delivery services for a rehabilitative stream and riparian buffer project on the 24-acre Stony Fork Restoration Site in southwestern Johnston County.
Located within the Upper Neuse River Basin, the project restored approximately 6,000 linear feet of stream and 16 acres of riparian buffer, as well as four tributaries impacted by channelization, riparian vegetation removal, forestry, and agricultural activities.
KCI established a new primary stream and improved smaller connecting tributaries, contributing to a more stabilized ecosystem. Our team also enhanced the area’s natural environment by strategically encouraging the formation of small wetlands from excess water seeping out of nearby hillsides, as well as removing invasive privet and kudzu plants before reestablishing native vegetation. Since the initiative’s completion, KCI continues to monitor the site as part of a seven-year monitoring program.
